Enduring the Sound Doctrine … Exposing the Myth of Valentine’s Day

By Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr

(Sabbath Sermon, 15th February, 2014)

Apostles Peter and Paul in Culture Shock!

If the apostle Peter or Paul were to stroll through this life again, how will they cope in the modern religious world?

First, modern life itself would strike them as somewhat quaint and otherworldly, what with zooming cars and ear-hugging mobile phones and cloud-piercing airplanes buzzing overhead! But as devout followers of Christ, they would seek to find out if the Christian faith they lived for and died for still exists.

On first encounter, the strangeness of contemporary Christianity would confound them; the shallowness of today’s church-goers would amaze them, and the descent of church ritual into pagan myths would alarm them.

First, they would miss most church services if they intend, week after week, to visit the various churches. As their custom was, they would make a point of attending services on the Sabbath (Acts 17:2; 16:13), but most of the Christian world would be holding services on Sunday.

The Glory of the Latter House

By Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr

(Sabbath Sermon, 4th January, 2014)

An Unfinished House of Glory

An artist's skill lies in his ability to turn nondescript material, such as a piece of wood or stone, into a beautiful work of art. It may be sculpture or painting. But the wonder is that the once pedestrian material has become a fine work of art people stop to admire and even spend good money to buy.  The artist sees something in the raw uncut stone or bland scene no one else with ordinary eyes sees. He sees hidden beauty in the crude material and his job is to bring it out by hammering the material into shape or painting with dexterous strokes of the brush.

King Solomon speaks to the principle in Proverbs: "Take the impurities out of silver and the artist can produce a thing of beauty" (Prov. 25:4 GNB).

So what does God see in us?

Free Visa Advice to Heaven

By Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr

(Sabbath Sermon, 25th January, 2014)

Visa, the Wonder Paper Many only Dream about

The world is an unfair place.  And there's really no one to put the blame on, except to say the curse of Paradise Lost persists to this day and is the remote cause of all human misery!  In one home people have food and drink and all the creature comforts to spare; in another home, really a shack they call home, hungry mouths barely have enough to eat, let alone enjoy modern comforts.

It's an age-old outrage: wealth exists side by side with poverty, prosperity with destitution. And it's not only true of individuals in virtually every society on earth but also true of nations.  The nations of the world, in terms of economic ranking, fall into two main categories: rich, developed nations and poor, underdeveloped nations. The former have earned the collective term the First World and the latter the Third World.  And from the perspective of the people of the Third World, given their lower standard of living, the grass is always greener on the other side - the side of the First World.

A Calling to Perfect Holiness

 2013 End-of-Year Camp Meeting

Sabbath School Lesson

A Calling to Perfect Holiness

By Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr

Introduction:

“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts”

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged (Isa. 6:1-7).

Our King, the LORD of hosts, requires holiness of the believer; He desires to share His holy nature with us, and in a holistic, all-encompassing manner. He commands us to be holy in all our conduct (1 Pet. 1:15). Yet the stark reality of our human condition is that we cannot by ourselves attain holiness. As the descendants of fallen Adam, we are conceived in sin (Ps 51:5) and live in the filth of sin (Rom. 5:12).

Walk Before Me and Be Perfect

 By Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr

(Sabbath Sermon, 11th Jan. 2014)

More than a Journey—an Invite to Intimacy!

We read in Gen. 17:1:

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be thou perfect.

Mark the age attained—in his 99th year when God gave this special revelation and message to Abraham after they had had a relationship for a quarter of a century, 24 years!  God called Abraham at age 75 out of his family and his country into a land He said He would show him. “2And [there] I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran” (Gen. 12:1-4).

A Faithful God in An Uncertain World

 2013 End-of-Year Camp Meeting

Sermon By: Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr

Title: A Faithful God in An Uncertain World

"Jesus Christ, the same Yesterday, Today and Forever"

Golden Text:

Ps 90:1-2

1 LORD, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.

As the secular year 2013 comes to an end, we have a lot to be thankful for.  Thankful for the gift of life, thankful for the abundance of blessings, and for the hand of Providence that has guided us through the storm, through the valley and through the wilderness.  Let our soul swell with gratitude to God for His mercy and deliverance:

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:

3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's (Ps 103:1-5).
