Key Texts: ‘God watches over His Word to perform it’ (Jer. 1:12).
“The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous” (Ps 125:3 NIV).
Like Jacob we are a blessed people (Gen. 28:1-4, 13-15; 1 Pet. 3:9), and we must pray for the Lord to fulfill His word of blessing in our life (Gen. 32:24-29; 1 Thess. 5:24; Rom. 8:32).
The faithful God will see to the fulfillment of His word. “The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous.” This scripture shows that the enemy can hinder our possession of our God-ordained blessings. But it won’t and shouldn’t be forever! The enemy must not be allowed to hold back our blessings!
Today, we will break the scepter (the hold) of the enemy over our inheritance in Jesus’ Name! His word is true: The rod of the wicked will not remain over our inheritance, be it physical or spiritual!
Thus did Jabez “who was [by his God-ordained destiny] more honourable than his brethren” pray:
“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother [contrary to his destiny] called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
“And Jabez called on the God of Israel [His destiny-giver], saying, Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me [as implied in my name given to me by my mother in the sorrow of her painful labour]! And God granted him that which he requested” (1 Chron. 4:9-10).
For us to realize our God-given destiny of greatness, we need to pray the Jabez prayer; we need to pull down all satanic strongholds impeding our progress with the mighty weapons of our spiritual warfare (2 Cor. 10:3-5). Yes, we must “put on the whole armour of God” and face and resist the devil, “the shield of faith” and “the sword of the Spirit” playing leading roles in the assault (Eph. 6:10-18; Jam. 4:7; 1 Pet. 5:8-9).
This is the year of the Lord’s favour! The anointing of the Lord is here to “heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:18-19).
Therefore, enlarge the place of your tent to receive the bounties of the Lord. His kindness shall never depart from us. His covenant of peace with us remains intact (Isa. 54:1-10).
So let us “give Him no rest [this year], till He establish, and till He make Jerusalem [You and I] a praise in the earth [for the unbelievers to see His glory in us] (Isa. 62:6-7). Amen!
